A small community hospital that delivers quality care! I was admitted with an emergency condition while visiting South Lake Tahoe for one day! I ended up having 2 emergency surgeries and was discharged 16 days later. I was so sick but received such wonderful care from the nurses and the doctors. I had between 2-4 doctors visit me every day with updates. The nurses and care team were so caring and compassionate. Yes, at times they were really busy, but they never complained when I pushed the button and called them into my room for a need. I was so totally dependent on them for all my needs! They even provided a heating pad for my cold feet! The doctors all seemed very competent and gave me a complete work up while I was a patient. I was so thankful to have been a patient in this facility. It was a complete surprise to discover such wonderful care from this small local hospital.

I was born here 30 years ago, and my parents always told me how wonderful the doctors and staff were. My mom was in labor for over 12 hours, it was her first child; and in the end, they had to use a vacuum to help bring me into the world. I was too comfortable staying put! When I was finally born, I came out purple and almost didn't make it, but thanks to the doctors and their care, I survived. For that, I will always be grateful. This hospital gave my parents one of the happiest days of their lives and gave me my start in life. Thank you, Lake Tahoe! you're a beautiful place to be born.

I had to take my 5yo to the ER during the night a few days ago, we were seen right away and I want to highlight the staff that made our stay so much better. All the nurses and doctor were incredibly nice and ensured my son felt better before sending us home. They made his visit so good that he left saying "the hospital was so nice and so much fun!". Staff at the ER at Barton Memorial Hospital, we appreciate you and how you treat your patients didn't go unnoticed. Your kindness and expertise made our stay so much better.

This review pertains to the OBGYN outpatient department specifically, but notes some systematic failures of Barton Health overall. I have called to speak to someone, but haven't yet heard back. I am so disappointed in the treatment I received from the front office staff at the Women's Clinic at Barton Health. Because of the unfriendly, abrupt woman at the front desk (middle-aged, with dark hair), I didn't even make it to see a doctor. I was treated so disrespectfully I made the choice to decline care altogether. Firstly, the address listed on Apple Maps is not accurate. I was directed to Gastroenterology. I entered that building to receive directions to the OBGYN building, which set me back a few minutes late for my appointment. When I walked into the building (30 weeks pregnant, after a 1.5 hour drive down from Truckee), I wasn't greeted with a smile or a "How can I help you?" rather an "Oh you're late. I don't think the doctor can see you." This negative greeting really upset me. She could have instead said, "I'll see if the doctor can see you," which the doctor did agree to do. I apologized for my tardiness, explaining I'd received no reminder email, phone call, or text. Typically, for any appointment (medical or even beauty), businesses send reminders. I had no point of reference, but thought I'd written down 9:00 to arrive 15 minutes prior to a 9:15 appointment for paperwork. This wasn't the front desk staff's fault, rather a system failure for Barton. Please ensure your new patients feel supported by sending reminders! I did explain that I'd had a chance to complete paperwork online 3 days prior to my appointment, including uploading my insurance card, but again the woman's response was rude and abrasive. "This is different paperwork." I handed her my insurance card once again and she informed me that my insurance was not accepted. It is absolutely unacceptable that this was missed in my booking the appointment (over 1 month ago), Barton's call back to reschedule, and in the three days prior to my appointment with my insurance information uploaded into MyChart. Again - this is a systematic failure of Barton Memorial's registration system. I inquired about paying out of pocket, but ultimately decided that if this woman was any indication of the treatment I was to receive from providers at Barton Health, than better for me to leave. I left in tears, frustrated and feeling so disrespected. Barton lost a potential patient and I will make sure to share my experience with any friends considering delivering at Barton. A smile and some empathy goes a long way.

Terrible service. My mother-in-law had severe pain on one side of her head and went to the clinic to get checked out. They scared her into going to the emergency room and they did a scan and found nothing and only gave her fluids. They didn't even check her scalp. If they would have taken the time to have examined her properly they would have seen little bumps which we found out later, she had herpes zoster. If the doctor would have bothered to check, they would've known what she had and given her the proper medication. Instead she was in pain for another week before she got the proper diagnosis and medication. Since she doesn't have insurance she has to pay a big medical bill for going to the emergency room (as recommended) for not even getting the correct diagnosis nor getting the correct medication. Absolutely avoid Barton.
