Brought my child to the Providence Memorial ER for croup cough, fever and shortness of breath in the middle of the night. After triage we waited almost three hours before being seen by a doctor. I asked the nurses when we were going to be seen by a doctor and they said "the viruses from your swab all tested negative, so we are going to discharge your child" (her lungs hadn't even been listened to by a doctor yet). The nurse said, "She looks fine to me. We had to admit more serious emergencies first." I saw several addicts, looking for pain meds get admitted and seen by a doctor faster than my child with shortness of breath. Meanwhile every time my kid coughed in the waiting room, parents looked at her concerned. I had to demand that my daughter be seen after we were the last people in the ER and it was clear they had forgotten about us. Save yourself the trouble of this ER and take your child to Oakland Children's Hospital for more competent care. The nurses at Providence totally let my child slip through the cracks. It wasn't even that busy so there was no excuse.

In 2014, I had a simple operation at Memorial Hospital. After the operation, after several weeks, I developed a raging infection in my foot. I return to the hospital with 104 fever, red streaks going up my leg, and a significant amount of pain. After an x-ray and some lab work they returned to the ER room that I was in, and they told me that I had sprained my ankle. Of course this was not the case at all; all they cared about was not getting another infection on their scorecard. This caused me 12 hours of delay in confusion before I went to the other Hospital in in Santa Rosa. When I entered that hospital they could clearly see I was having a severe infection and from the moment I went through the doors there until 6 weeks later I don't remember very much at all. It turns out I almost died, they almost removed my left leg, and this experience of not receiving care at memorial, despite obvious symptoms of an infection, changed my life irrevocably. I can barely walk, and I have developed severe other symptoms related to the damage the infection did because it ran wild in those short 12 hours. Memorial claims to be a faith-based organization where they actually care and have compassion for patients. Obviously this was not my experience Before you consider memorial please carefully remember my story. Forevermore I will call the sisters of orange the "sisters of no mercy".

My mother in-law was flown into this hospital for emergency gallbladder removal, and she was there for four days. The day she was finally released her, my husband and I all tested positive for COVID! Day 1 she was left in bed for 3.5 hours with no help of attendants, once my husband checked in with the nursing staff they finally got her some pain meds and water at 9:30pm. Day 2 she was just waiting to get a shower. The staff told her in the morning she was going to get a shower and then she didn't get one until around 5:30pm. Day 3 early in the morning, some staff came in and told her to sign paperwork for her surgery. She had not met with the surgeon yet and crossed out the part that said "Yes, I have had a consultation with my surgeon." The staff flipped out on her, took her paperwork away, and then refused to take her to get her first procedure. Once the surgeon and did come, she was on her way to her first procedure. When they returned her to her room the staff hooked her up to her drip and forgot to turn it on! She was on a no liquids because of the surgery diet, so she got very dehydrated. Meanwhile, her roommate's bedpan had over flowed and she had wet herself and it took close to 2.5 hours and multiple calls to the floor staff before anyone came to help her. When mother-in-law finally made it to the pre-opt room it was around 2:30 and the husband and I waited with her for about 1.5 hours before they took her into the surgery. The surgeon came out about 45 mins later and told us everything went well, and to wait where we were until staff told us mother-in-law was moving back to her room. Well, no one came to get us and mother-in-law had to call on her cell phone to tell us they had moved her back! Then we were in the room with her for close another hour before the nurse came in and said no one had told her, her patient had returned. The hospital looks nice on the outside, but organizationally there are huge problems... only one person went there to get surgery and heal, and three of us came out sick! Not good, not good at all.

Added after the original post 11/2025: I have opted to receive my post surgery follow-ups with a local specialist because I was not being listened to here by the surgeon or staff. I ended up in the ER due to being told to wait and make an appointment in this office on a Friday. If a patient is in a medical crisis due to surgery you do NOT advise them to make an in office appt. You say go to the emergency room. I waited two days til Sunday and my entire right side went numb. The other hospital was shocked at the advise and said I was in need of urgent medical care. Telling a patient to make an appointment shows this is about money and not the care of the individual. You will never bill me or my insurance again. I was sent home already not stable and was treated like I was a burden to this hospital. My new care takers are treating me so different. This hospital needs new leadership. My nurse took my discharge paperwork and never brought it back. I feel rushed out of the hospital because they don't do aftercare. I don't know how I'm supposed to take care of myself now. I have no plan or home nurse set up. This is terrible treatment. Added: for my follow up visits I am NOT recieving ANY care whatsoever for a major surgery. I was having serious complications and my not healing after 8 weeks. Instead of any tests or referrals I was told to just believe I'm gonna heal. I left the office feeling hopeless. About 4 hours later my pharmacy said a prescription was ready that I was not told I was getting. Another narcotic. Which is not standard for 8 weeks post op. I was not told about this med and ended up getting worse within a week. I messaged my surgeon's office and told them I needed tests and they said I could make ANOTHER appointment. No! You already billed my insurance for the one where you ignored me. My husband witnessed everything and had to rush me to a different hospital where they found did blood tests and found exactly what was wrong. I had been dealing with so much pain and being ignored for so long by my surgeon's office all it took was one blood test to find the issue. I am canceling my followup and you will never see me or my family at this hospital again. It is purely for profit and not the patient. The board members need to stop forcing these time limits with patients too. The practice of patient conveyor system is not HEALTH CARE! You bottom line is not more important that human life.
