Patient
There are not enough words to describe the gratitude my family and I feel toward Dr. Michael Broukhim. He is not only a gifted cardiologist, but a true WARRIOR for his patients. On Father's Day, my 95 year old father had a heart attack. What unfolded was anything but routine. Complications arose, and what should have been simple procedure turned into a four hour battle in the operating room. Many doctors would have stopped when the odds became overwhelming. But Dr. Broukhim is different. He is relentless. He did not quit. He fought for my father's life every single step of the way. As I was waiting at the St. Johns cafeteria, every second, every minute, every hour that went by, there was a warrior by the name of Michael Broukhim that put his relentless mind and hands to task. His perseverance gave my father a second chance and gave my family the priceless gift of more time together. It was not just his medical skill that saved my dad, it was his determination, his refusal to give up, and his ability to see beyond the statistics to the human being lying in front of him. He understood my need to keep my best friend alive. He carried that weight as if it were his own. That kind of compassion is rare, and it cannot be taught. It comes from a place of true humanity!!! But what sets Dr. Broukhim apart is that his care did not stop in the operating room. A few days after the surgery, he personally called me on my cell phone to ask about my father's recovery but was equally concerned about my own health. He didn't rush through the call. He took the time to have a genuine 1 on 1 conversation with me as if we knew each other for years. Showing the same compassion outside of the hospital that he showed inside of it. That simple act, from a doctor who had already given so much, meant the world to me and my family. My son now has more time to play with his Grandpa and and my dad now has more time with his only grandchild. That gift alone is priceless!!! Dr. Broukhim is a rare kind of surgeon. One whose hands and mind work miracles, and whose heart never stops caring. His relentless drive to save lives and his deep compassion for patients and their families make him one of the finest & rarest doctors I have ever encountered! My family and I will forever be grateful to him for giving us more time with my father. I pray that he continues to bless other families with the same courage, compassion, and never ending determination he showed us. He is proof that there are doctors out there who will never, never, never give up. EVER!!! #MoreTomorrows
