Patient
To whom this may concern; I have decided to share a few thoughts with the Sutter-PAMF patient community about my experiences and the care provided to me by Dr. Neil Sawhney for almost 8 years now. Dr. Sawhney has been my Cardiac Interventionist, and one of the 3-4 main "Specialists" Team that caught me when befallen by a very rare and dangerous auto-immune illness that struck me down hard a day after a 30 mile cross-country MTB training ride with my mate. I can say that my physical health and condition the day before I met Drs. Sawhney, Culver, Jog, Vu, and Wu was close to the best of my life. The next day when I met them all, I was deteriorating rapidly with a very compromised cardio-vascular system that was failing and not responding to any of their best efforts. All the while when his services were needed desperately over the first five then six days, Dr. Sawhney's easy bedside manor with clear reassurance and reasoned voice kept me calm in the knowing that I would be alright. I still remember the early morning of that 6th day, the Group of Sutter-PAMF Drs, lead by Dr Sawhney decided we had all done as much as possible here locally and I now must be sent "stat", via helicopter to the large Team of experts assembled at UCSF Medical Research Hospital for care of a much higher level. The decision to send me straight away and NOT do the impending catheter insertion up into my heart via my femoral artery, had to have been beyond difficult as this group only wanted to give me the best care possible. As I think about those days now knowing what I now know, 8 years later, being in much better health but still requiring and receiving what seems like a never ending amount of very serious care, much, thankfully still, from Dr. Sawhney, that a really brilliant Dr.and Surgeon, in the heat of battle, could reason out a solution to an extremely difficult medical problem by NOT performing a procedure so as to allow (trust) other "experts" a chance to do something that may just be a better way to fix me. I can't say enough to express my gratitude to Dr Sawhney for his careful but always extremely professional care. I can only wish him and his Team the best of continued health and happiness knowing how much they have all given to me continuously for all these years. With fondest regards, Terry V.
