Patient
Being a Doctor myself, I understand the complexities and challenges that face us with care and cost. No one is perfect and in our system/culture we really like to run a lot of testing. However, this cannot continue. Here is a quick snippet of our experience with UCD to warn others. We had what turned out to be a false positive test show up on our Ultrasound for our baby and were encouraged to utilize their advanced imaging down at this location to see what may be a defect in the heart. We were told there was absolutely nothing wrong (which was a relief) but then were asked if we would allow them to use their new imaging unit they were looking to purchase and to test out with ultrasound tech. We agreed to the additional time as we were under the impression we were doing them a favor, not incurring additional cost. Unfortunately, months later, we get out bill for over $3,500 which includes the additional time spent for the tech to try out their new machine. Tried to dispute this with UC Davis and the Doctor but no use. They may have excellent Providers and facilities but their billing/coding practices are a shining example of everything wrong with our current healthcare system. Will never utilize them again and will steer my patient referrals away as well.
