Dr. Brian Chesnie has been my Cardiologist since 2005 when I found needed a stint. There was no messing around. I was given options of a plethora of tests or just do it's we did it! Since then I've seen him annually for check ups, tests etc which eventually led me to a quadruple bypass in 2017. When asked, Brian recommended a local top knee surgeon to me and I followed his recommendationn and subsequently had two knees replaced. (One during the COVID debacle) I'm nigh on 80 now and based on my past, I very highly recommend Dr Chesnie way beyond any 5 stars. He has been a nonpareil cardiologist and cannot say more.
As for the office? I grew up the son of a classical Jazz musician ( piano) and I find myself right at home in an atmosphere and a pleasant leitmotiv of "Satchmo" Armstrong and a Sinatra . The staff (Vicky et al) are super great and very professional patient with their patients.

I don't typically leave reviews but wanted to weigh in based on a couple of the negative reviews I saw on here.
I have a family history of high cholesterol and was having a little discomfort in my chest. I was able to easily get an appointment with Dr. Chesnie and he listened to all of my concerns and answered all of my questions.
We put together a plan to address the problem and set up some follow up appointments to make sure everything was functioning properly. After a couple of stress tests he had some serious concerns about my heart.
He immediately got me some more intensive treatment which undoubtedly saved my life. I appreciate how thorough he was and how quickly he was able to get to the root of the problem.
When it comes to heart health I don't know why anyone would take any shortcuts or accept anything besides the best. Dr. Chesnie was great and I will continue to see him as long as I can. Like I said he was very thorough and explained every step along the way.
Just like anyone else, when I see negative reviews it gives me some pause, especially regarding something as important as a cardiologist. I just wanted to put this out there to let people know that Dr. Chesnie has been great for me, and honestly saved my life.

After only two appointments I had to write a review.
Dr. Chesnie is literally one of the best doctors I've ever seen, and I've had some great experiences. And of course I've also experienced some horribly run offices and incompetent doctors out there even with Hoag.
The average doctor visit is about 6 minutes....if you're lucky, and that's after spending 20 minutes in the waiting room and another 10 in a private room.
It was easy to get a call back, short wait times, he's generous with his time, and extremely up to date in his continuing education, research and writing for the benefit of his patients.
He's extremely knowledgeable on meds but is very respectful if you question him on them. The only doctor I've ever encountered that has authoritative knowledge on statins rather than just keeping Big Pharma in business.
The staff is over the top friendly, very comfortable offices, and great coffee table books. He''s even got a portrait of Eric Clapton on the wall! Hello? And it's politely labeled for all the philistines!

I had a terrible experience with Dr. Chesnie.
Google doesn't allow long reviews and I didn't want to put an edited version here. You can see my full review on Yelp. Summary;
1. Dr. Chesnie instructed his front office to not devote any further time to getting my medical records from Kaiser. They were having trouble getting the full/complete records as opposed to summaries. While I have no doubt they tried and Kaiser was being difficult, instead of the attitude "we will do whatever it takes to get your records" the Dr. in essence gave up and threw that ball back in my court. His response caused me stress. I made one phone call to the records department who promptly got all the requested records to their office.
2. I left my 2nd appointment with Dr Chesnie so stressed out, scarde, exhausted and frazzled I can't properly articulate to you the extent of how bad I felt. He was calm at the outset of the appointment as he laid out all the issues I had and how serious they were. It was was very direct and matter of fact and the rapid fire manner in which Dr. C fired off my issues along with his intensity rattled me. At that point, because of the medical records issue I thought he just didn't like me for some reason. I have no idea if that's true but it is what I thought.
At this point he appeared only mildly upset. He went on to explain his recommended protocol to me (to have the procedure described above) at this point he was now fairly pleasant and optimistic as he explained all the benefits. But as soon as I seemed disappointed and wanted to discuss getting back to work and having the procedure in a few months he said that he knew getting a fit for duty opinion was "part of my agenda" (yes Dr. earning enough money to pay my rent and continue my health benefits is important to me) but he just wasn't comfortable doing that. At that point he got agitated and stood up, making his way to the door to abruptly end the appt. The end of our appointment had me in his chair, obviously completely scarde, stressed and upset with him standing with his hand on the door handle. To this date and most likely the rest of my life I will remain emotionally scarred from that appointment. Not because of the content as I was already deemed fit by Kaiser, but because of his delivery.
Summary, I returned to work for 4.5 months with no issues, extended my benefits throughout 2018 and plan to have the corrective procedure as soon as possible with another Cardiologist.
Dr. Chesnie was awesome on my first appointment. Very encouraging and nice. I thought I found my Cardiologist for life. He obviously has the ability to give top medical advice, his office is very nice as are the women working for him. If you use his labs and don't need medical records forwarded and follow his recommendations completely I think you will probably have a good experience. Based on his other reviews I would recommend seeing him and see how things go.

An EKG that was part of the pre-op evaluation for a kidney stone removal procedure showed that I had Atrial Flutter. I called several cardiologist offices for appointments and talked to polite and well-mannered people but one lady stood out with her personable tone of voice. I made the appointment and sent her office a copy of my EKG. A couple of hours later, to my complete surprise, I received an email back from Dr. Brian Chesnie starting with Dear Mr. followed by caring and empathetic words, which told me that I was going to be in good hands. Just with the first visit, Dr. Chesnie clearly explained my health problem and significantly calmed my worries and fear. His office staff members were courteous and friendly and the waiting time was insignificant. The nurse who did an ultrasound of my heart in his office, being able to sense my worries, with a soothing and caring voice, told me at least twice: "Don't worry, your heart is fine". Those simple but sympathetic words meant a lot to people like me who are deeply worried about their health. A few weeks later, Dr. Chesnie brought my heart to its normal rhythm by performing a cardioversion procedure at a Hoag facility in Newport Beach where the entire medical staff was so caring, courteous, and helpful.
