Patient
My grandmother was a high risk cardiac patient and was transferred to USC Keck Hospital in DTLA and underwent a complex procedure performed by Dr. Ray Matthews, an exceptional cardiologist. During this critical time, Dr. Jerold Shinbane was involved in her care, and his presence made a meaningful impact on both my grandmother and our family. Dr. Shinbane saw her around the time of the procedure and during her immediate recovery. What stood out was the way he communicated with her. My grandmother does not speak or understand English, yet she was still able to understand him and respond. His calm tone, patience, and respectful manner helped her feel safe and at ease during a very vulnerable moment. He has a reassuring presence and a way of connecting that extends beyond the patient to the family as well. He took the time to acknowledge us, answer questions, and show genuine concern, which brought comfort during an incredibly stressful experience. We are grateful to Dr. Jerold Shinbane and his team for the compassion, professionalism, and care they showed our grandmother and our family.
