My husband has been a patient of Dr. Whitwam for over 3 years. He cared for my husband in Scripps ICU and then as outpatient. He is an excellent doctor and I trust his care. He can come across a little brusque but he really isn't, it's part of his process. He's honest, caring and thoughtful. His office staff is also top notch. Waiting time for appointment is minimal, the staff respond quickly to any message or concern, follow up in a timely manner when needed. I trust Dr. Whitwam and highly recommend him.

Dr. Whitwam is excellent in all ways. He takes time to explain procedures and medications to his patients and really knows his stuff. I am a care provider for a patient in her eighties who generally doesn't like dealing with doctors, surgery or medications. Dr. Whitwam reassured her by taking the time to explain procedure and medication benefits and potential drawbacks. Dr. Whitwam replaced her previous pacemaker with one that has an extra lead, providing a thorough explanation of how it would work to improve heart function. Although one lead became dislodged, Dr. Whitwam knew of a better lead to use and obtained one from a different manufacturer. The patient is doing extremely well on just a few medications. Her previous cardiologist would provide prescriptions on her way out the door without saying why and also installed the pacemaker in the right chest area instead of the left without explanation. She is extremely comfortable with Dr. Whitwam and he has definitely improved her quality of life. The pacemaker procedures were done at Scripps where the quality of care is excellent. As a retired licensed healthcare provider, I know a thing or two because I have seen a thing or two. Dr. Whitwam is excellent and highly recommended.

Dr Whitwam is very highly knowledgeable and efficient. I needed a heart stress test in short order for my job and he got me through it in time. He didn't rush, though; he was careful to explain everything I needed to know and was attentive during the test. Hope I never need a heart specialist again but if I do, I'm calling him!
