Vernon Phillips, MD - Greg Phillips, MD

Dr. Phillips is a great Dr. I've been going to him for years. He's kept me alive. His staff is spot on. Y'all have to remember, they are dealing with suck people who don't take care of themselves! Great Dr, great Staff!

I have been going to Dr. Phillips for close to 10 years now and keep going, even though I moved out of Imperial Beach, because he is a solid doctor. He is always friendly in his greetings, listens to what I have to say and has always offered what I consider to be appropriate treatment. And I've come to him for everything from preventative care while traveling to foreign countries, injuries, illness, referrals, and other medical concerns. In my opinion, once you find a solid doctor like that, you keep him. As far as his staff goes, sure they may not be all warm and fuzzy on the surface but they are good people, engaging when engaged and more importantly, they get the job done.

Dr. Phillips is okay but his front-desk receptionist sounds annoyed, is rude, and clearly could care less. As you read through the reviews with this doctor there is pattern. Rude staff members that have no customer service training or empathy. Distressing that no remedy has been made. 3-4 bad reviews over an 8 year period. I'm sure he knows who it is.

I found Dr. Phillips staff to be pleasant, helpful, and efficient. None of them are especially "hail fellow, well met" types but a pleasant greeting and a smile from me were always returned with same. I appreciate an efficient staff - I will forgo the jokes for a search for a mutually good appointment time, a well done job of getting vital signs, or a no-nonsense but painless injection if needed. I got all of these in Dr. Phillips office. As for accents, my last health group had doctors and other staff from everywhere - Belarus, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Argentina, China, and Philippines, talk about interpreting accents! I found this to make visits more interesting. Dr. Phillips nurse is a charming woman if you engage her. I have been using Dr. Phillips as my PCP for about a year now and find him and his staff to be very professional. References to specialists have been efficiently handled with a minimum of delay. Lab results are available with minimum delay as well. The location is in an older building in IB but is clean and well maintained. I am sure everyone would like a sparkling new building but I like a location that I can walk/bike to from my home in IB.

The Dr. himself is very friendly and helpful. He has a great sense of humor as is an obvious jokester. But having to go through his rude assistance is just not worth it to me. There are two receptionists, and only one of them is rude. The receptionist sitting in the back is very nice and helpful. The one directly in the front is just flat out rude and seems to have nothing but bad days. Kind of seems like she feels she's too good for the patience and sees herself on a higher level. She barley even made eye contact. The nurse that helped me had a very heavy accent and was difficult to understand her. She was very short with me. I even made a couple jokes and either she didn't get them, didn't hear me, or just flat out didn't care. I have never in my life dealt with such a rude nurse. She would cut me off in the middle of me answering a question and too didn't even make eye contact with me. She just picked up on a phone call that I made 5 minutes ago and again was very rude. Placing me on hold and really not even caring about my concerns. Just seems like most of the staff there just don't enjoy their days. I don't think I will be returning here. I don't want to walk in there in a good mood and then leave with their dark shadow over my head.
