I brought my son here today. We arrived at 3:00 PM because he had a fever that would not subside. His vitals were taken, and he was given a dose of Zofran and Tylenol, which brought his fever down to 101.5. They also took a nasal swab. After triage, we were placed in the waiting room. I watched as the waiting room slowly but surely filled up. None of the patients arriving appeared to be critical. They all went through the same process: triage, then back to the waiting room. At 5:00 PM, a nurse told me they would have my discharge paperwork shortly. That paperwork never came, and neither did the discharge. I have asked the front desk multiple times about it. Each time, the answer has been the same: "Let me look into it." There have been three different front desk staff members rotating through intake since we've been here--it seems like a new person every half hour. Patient information that is essential to running a smooth operation should be handled by someone assigned to the desk for a full 6-8 hour shift. Breaks are understandable, but continuity clearly matters. As anyone who has lived in Hollister for any length of time knows, Hazel Hawkins is not a good hospital. If you have a truly critical injury or illness that requires immediate, advanced care, they do not have the skills or resources to treat it. You'll be airlifted to Stanford and hope for the best. This hospital is an absolute mess. It's no surprise they are once again on the brink of bankruptcy. How difficult is it to find leadership capable of fixing a hospital that has been failing for decades? This is a known problem. Figure it out. Solve it.

Emergency department is amazing! They really made sure to get me the proper care needed. Dr Bogey really made sure I got the MRI I needed right away with out having to wait weeks or even months. It was an urgent matter in my eyes an he made sure to hear me. As well as the nurse there named Arianna. Had a great experience and with many people giving them a bad name , I thought I'd share a positive experience

My 89 years old mom was brought in to the ER for possible stroke and it is almost 7 pm. My mom doesn't have a diagnosis, concrete treatment and explanation of all the tests done. A nurse is ask about diagnosis for an antibiotic she was going to administer and she didn't know, waiting time for the doctor, unknown too. We understand that there are other life threatening emergencies but nobody keeps you inform of anything and my mom still lethargic in bed. Horrible bedside manners and continue care. Last information my sister got from the nurse " we administer antibiotics to every admissions, however, she couldn't explain why or what she was treating my mom for ?". Very vague information and answer.

Terribly incompetent hospital. Pray to God you dont have an emergency. Get air insurance because you'll probably need to be air lifted for anything. Person came in at 930 and left near at 1243 because no doctor was seeing her or attending her since 1030. Incredibly rude, hire more people. Workers want to yap and talk more than their job.

So I have previously given a generic review of staff being acceptable but depth is needed here. Last week me and my husband ended up going to the ER two days in a row for serious concerns we had. My husband was presenting with left chest pain and numbness in left arm and hand. That visit went alright. Craig the nurse is great, friendly and has a wonderful sense of humor. Dr. Hussein only made an appearance once for the initial exam. They ran tests and drew blood twice on him. The lab tech doing the blood draws there need more training. You are not supposed to tap the same vein twice as it can lead to major bruising and hematoma. I told the tech that and he said "if it doesn't hurt that bad it won't bruise". Well it bruised BAD. His entire under elbow and tricep is black and blue cuz he used the same vein twice. The next day I went because I thought I had popped a DVT in my left arm. Had all the symptoms so I had to be sure. The alternative would be a PE and I didn't want to die. The ultrasound tech that day, Priscilla, absolutely capable and wonderful sweet lady. The lab tech sucked. It was some chick. She came in and wanted to look at both of my arms. I told her I was there for possible DVT in my left arm and she can only draw from my right arm. She argued with me but I was firm. She found a vein on my right arm by my elbow but decided to stick my hand and with a large needle instead of a butterfly. Knowing it hurts worse in the hand and with larger needles. Sick. I'm super disappointed with the lab techs at HHH. I'm not even a licensed phlebotomist and I know you don't tap a vein twice and you don't try to pull blood from an arm with a potential DVT. These techs need more training. Dr. Hussein is decent enough I guess. Not really involved. Saw him for the initial exam and never again. Never came back to read results either day we were there. Craig went over everything with my husband. My nurse the next day just said she has my discharge paperwork. Never went over my lab work or anything. They're nice but there's a disconnect somewhere. Dr. Bogey was out on vacation or something but he's usually who is in the ER. We love his system and how he runs the ED.
