Patient
Patient Experience Report I recently visited the emergency room after my orthopedic doctor instructed me to seek immediate care if I became unable to move some of my fingers following a major wrist sprain. Since my orthopedic office was closed, I went to the ER as directed. The physician who first saw me was Dr. Aaron (last name unknown), a young, thin doctor with blonde hair, glasses, and a Kansas City Chiefs vest. His demeanor was very short and dismissive. While he initially commented that "you can tell something is going wrong because of the bruising," he later contradicted himself, stating that "nothing was wrong" based on the x-ray results. He then recommended a medication that is clearly listed on my allergy list. When I explained that my orthopedic doctor had already scheduled an MRI and discussed the possibility of surgery--since an x-ray does not show the full extent of the injury--Dr. Aaron refused to listen. Instead, he was quick to make assumptions and even implied that I was seeking drugs, despite the fact that I had just undergone major surgery and specifically was not asking for any take-home medication. The supervising provider, Josh Post, was the complete opposite. He listened carefully, showed understanding, and treated both me and my family with respect. Thanks to him, I received actual help during this visit. I want it to be clear that I only sought proper medical evaluation and care as instructed by my orthopedic doctor. My concern is with the lack of professionalism and bedside manner displayed by Dr. Aaron, who dismissed my symptoms, ignored my documented allergies, and treated me in a way that was both unprofessional and unsafe. I will be speaking to a patient advocate due to the unprofessional and unsafe suggestions given by a Doctor hired through Unity Health Hospital.
