Dr. Valdes repaired my aortic valve in March 2017. I was very pleased by my entire experience. His office staff was very efficient, professional and always available for questions. I really enjoyed working with his PA during my hospitalization and follow-up appointment. She listened to and addressed any concerns and I felt like an valued individual. My interaction with Dr. Valdes was exactly perfect. I feel like my surgery was 100% success and his entire staff has my complete gratitude.

Do not let him do a valve repair on you. Mine failed while I was still in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. When I told his PA about it she passed it off as a Pleural Rub. He saw me daily for 10 days, released me from the hospital and did a checkup 1 week after getting out and still never diagnosed the failure even though I was exhibiting symptoms of CHF caused by the failed valve repair. It was 9 months before another doctor diagnosed the failure and scheduled me for a re-repair at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Four months later when I was reading over my old medical records from his surgery I realized the valve repair failed in intensive care. He used a method of accessing my mitral valve that had not been used in 10 years in the lower 48 because it was too risky and damages the heart conduction system. He does not do enough of them to be even proficient at an already risky procedure. The scar tissue from cutting the heart in half from the bottom 3/4 of the way up to access the valve disrupts the heart electrical system creating arrhythmias. I had to have a pacemaker put in before I could leave the hospital. I have arrhythmias that even the pacemaker can not fix. I have another friend in our town of 3,500 who had a successful repair done by him but now has arrhythmias and a pacer. My surgery by him in Anchorage cost $540.000. The re-repair in Ohio cost $250,000. The re-repair was done by making a 1-1/2 inch cut in the Atrium without cutting any big muscles or conduction circuits. It took several years for the scarred ventricular muscle (the strongest in the heart) to recover from being cut in half. A complaint is being filed with the Alaska Medical Board.to prevent him from butchering anyone elses heart.
