Barbara Mitchell is thorough in her examinations. She sits and discusses things with you and makes you feel like a human and not another chart to get through. She also recognizes that not every person is the same and not everyone reacts to medications the same. She understands that we as the patients know our bodies better than anyone. She may be the doctor but we know what being the patient feels like because it's us that have to deal with the effects or symptoms that we have, not the doctors. Barbara Mitchell gets that and she listens and does everything she can to help. She loves her patients and you can feel that when you are in the room with her. What I would like to focus on, is the app MyChart. While it's convenient to be able to message your needs, it's only convenient IF that message is read and responded to in a timely manor. Some patients are not able to freely speak on the phone about their conditions. Depending on the reason a message to the nurse via text or email is necessary. Some conditions or symptoms a patients has are confidential or just plain embarrassing to verbally speak about. Sometimes it's easier to express in words. Just wish those words were "heard" as much as a patients voice.

This DMC location is so friendly and that starts with the front desk. Lab phlebotomist may have been having a hard day bc she was not interested in small talk or much smiling, but hey- it happens. Dr. Mitchell is an awesome PCP and I've loved her for years. Her nurse and CNA are excellent as well.

Dr. Mitchell is the most thorough doctor I have. She listens to your concerns and makes you at ease with the balance of your health in her capable hands. Lord knows in these troubling times you need confidence in your doctor. I thank God I have a doctor that stands on business!

This review is not of Dr. Mitchell herself. Called the office today to establish care, receptionist sounded asleep, answered the phone with "diagnostic medical"... no greeting at all, no name or indication. I expressed that I wanted to establish care with Dr. Mitchell, she asked about my current pcp. I gave her his name and she said she isn't accepting transfer clients. Firstly, if she isn't accepting new clients then it should be removed from the site. I went through great lengths to find a Black, Female, Internal Medicine MD covered by my insurance. Secondly, I'm not sure what my current pcp had to do with her not accepting transfer patients... while he is listed as my PCP, I haven't seen him in over two years. So essentially, I do not have a PCP., but there was no further inquiry on the part of the receptionist. Thirdly, when asked if there was a reason she wasn't accepting transfers the receptionist responded "are you asking if I know why she's not accepting transfers" to which I responded yes. Her demeanor seemed as if I had no right to ask the question... the reason I asked is because sometimes people aren't accepting new clients because of workload / waitlist so I wanted clarification. As a whole, the experience was very disheartening and I pray that Dr. Mitchell sees and understands that some of us are tired of the injustices and prejudices of other races/genders and would like to be able to establish care with some with experience, knowledge, and who LOOKS LIKE US. Navigating the health care space as a black woman is hard enough as it is, it is even more devastating when rejection comes from your own.

My iron is at a level 5. (I feel absolutely TERRIBLE) They gave me a plan but never followed through. I've called several times to get an understanding of what to do next. I was told I'm supposed to be getting an infusion and pills but it's been 2 weeks and nobody has reached out and no prescription was ever called in. I called the office again and the front desk said the nurse would reach out (She NEVER DID) This is very unfortunate and unprofessional on their behalf. I had high hopes for Dr. Mitchell as a new patient. But I see her & her staff could apparently care less. They have TERRIBLE COMMUNICATION. I don't care how busy you get in your personal life. When you are dealing with sick patients in need you leave that stuff at home! I'm not in the business of running behind NOBODY. When you have patients...You FOLLOW UP! PERIOD! Thanks for showing yall true colors before I became an established patient. I'll find someone else. If you decide to see this Dr. GOOD LUCK. I hope you have a better experience because this was Not it.
