My husband was a complicated case. In June of 2018 he had a stroke in which with all the procedures they had to do found he also had a 6mm with a 2mm base aneurysm on the right side of his brain. We also learned he had >70% stenosis in his left internal carotid 2cm beyond origin, peripheral artery disease (also know as peripheral vascular disease is a circulatory condition which narrowed blood vessels reduce blood flow to the limbs), COPD, Coronary Artery disease (buildup of plaque), hyperlipidemia (abnormally high fats in the blood), dyslipidemia (elevated cholesterol which causes clogging of the arteries) just to name a few, although this was enough to have us concerned, we were trying to understand and learn these new terms and how serious everything was he was going through. He had a surgery called Endarterectomy which was to clear the flow by adding stents in the neck of the carotid artery. After all was said and done before we knew it we were once again facing a life changing event. In April of 2019 my husband had a heart attack, the surgeon that evaluated him called him the "walking dead" they could not find a pulse on him unless they went behind his knee or on top of his foot with a vascular doppler. 5 days later he had surgery "Cabbage" which is a triple by-pass. Within 3 months we found out that the vessel they used from his leg wasn't very good and had collapsed in his chest, therefore they had to go back in and put stents to hold it together. Then they had to put stents in both upper arms. Once we were able to surpass this terrible event in our life, my husband started having more angina pains (which feels like another heart attack) a lot. The doctors were transferring him from one to another because of one complication or another and finally realized they could not help my husband, he was already taking 50 - 100 nitroglycerin tablets a month without relief (the one doctor) admitted my husband's case was just too much for him and sent him to Dr. Mustafa Ahmed at The Kirklan Clinic in Birmingham. This doctor did a complicated heart cath and was able to open up some of the arteries going to the heart and adjusted his medications, put him on a new regiment of the new meds and thus far my husband is now doing so much better and maybe has taken maybe 4 nitro tablet in the past month only because he over exerted himself outside working in the yard. We had an appt on Tuesday and Dr. Ahmed was so happy at the fact of the progress my husband has made, he is gaining strength, becoming more active and finally has a doctor who genuinely cares about the well being of his patients. This doctor is very rare to find and exceptional in what he chose for his career! His staff is amazing as well and if you or anyone you may know needs a heart specialist look no further because this Doctor and his staff is the best and they truly care! We wouldn't trust my husband's heart to anyone else ever! I can't say enough great things about this Doctor and his staff at The Kirklan Clinic. Thank you for reading. Blessings to everyone. I'd have given zero stars, if possible. My grandmother had an appointment at 0745 for an EKG and 0800 to see Dr. Ahmed. She wasn't called back until nearly 0830 for the EKG/visit. She did not see the CRNP until after 0900. At 0957, we got up and left because Dr. Ahmed had STILL not arrived for his office visit patients. Despite us asking the status of when the doctor would be there, there was ZERO urgency nor concern by the staff here. The CRNP told us that Ahmed SCHEDULES cath lab time in the mornings and THEN sees patients in the clinic. When we questioned the CRNP as to why they would schedule clinic patients at the same time Ahmed is in the cath lab - his response was "that's just the way his clinic works". The CRNP was very rude as we were leaving and we will not be back. Who schedules themselves to be in two places at the same time? I'll tell you who, Dr. Ahmed. Ahmed obviously does not care about his patients nor their time. Had we been 2 hours late, I'd be willing to bet they wouldn't see us. Ahmed makes UAB and Kirklin look very bad. Go to another provider. If Ahmed can't even have enough respect to be even close to on time for his patients, God only knows what else he isn't good at. 0/10 - would never recommend this doctor.

I had a stroke a few months ago and during all the testing they found a small hole in my heart. I was sent to Dr. Ahmed to fix it. The procedure was done soon after and it went great. All my dealings with Dr. Ahmed and his staff have been great. His staff is amazing. Would recomend this clinic to anyone

Excellent care from start to finish. Dr Ahmed and his team are all very caring and professional. Had my first valve replacement 13 years ago at UAB and that remains the only place I will go for heart procedures. Recommend Dr. Ahmed without hesitation.

If I could give 0 stars I would...my appointment was 11:15 did not get to see the Dr until after 3pm...reasons being that the receptionist at the desk did not sign me in....found that out after sitting for one hour and a half after never being called to the back..I was overwhelmed and was told that it would be a longer wait....I left...at 1pm .I also requested to talk to a patient advocate which I did..after some time she came back and informed me that I could go back but I would have to wait ..and was basically saying that my appointment had been canceled as a no-show...mind you I was physically present.....I bit the bullet and stayed..finally I was called back only to sit for another hour ..my Doctor never came in but a NP did show up ..so from 1030 am until 330pm this is what I went through....it is absolutely beyond pityful that they over book patients ..some of the staff really need to to go through training again..really hope that I can find another Dr and establishment to where the patient/ health will be priority/ there was a family that drove from Marango County who was going through the same issue that I did....this place is awful..but thanks to the NP for all she did...
